AI Recommendation Intelligence Research

TrendAxis studies how AI systems decide which brands to trust, recommend, and choose. We publish original research on how ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Perplexity form beliefs about businesses and what determines who makes the shortlist.

Home of Axis Suite, the AI Recommendation Intelligence platform that explains what AI believes about your brand, why it believes it, and what to do about it.

What We Study

How AI Systems Form Recommendations

AI does not recommend brands randomly. Every recommendation from ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Perplexity passes through layers that determine which brands get mentioned, which get cited, which get recommended, and which get chosen as the default answer.

TrendAxis researches what drives those decisions. We study the structural, evidence, and diagnostic layers underneath every AI recommendation to understand why AI trusts certain brands and overlooks others.

Our research has identified five layers that determine every AI recommendation:

Retrieval. Can AI access your information?

Recommendation. Does AI include you when buyers ask?

Narrative. Does AI describe you accurately?

Evidence. Do independent sources corroborate your claims?

Memory. Does AI remember you consistently over time?

A problem in any single layer changes the recommendation. Understanding which layer is driving the result is the difference between improving on purpose and improving by accident.

The AI Trend Oracle is the research engine behind everything we publish. It continuously monitors how AI systems form, shift, and update their recommendations across industries, tracking the signals that determine which brands AI trusts and which ones it overlooks.

When we publish a framework, it is grounded in Oracle data. When we identify a market shift, the Oracle detected it. When we say "we are seeing a pattern," the Oracle is where we saw it.

Founder

About the Founder

TrendAxis was founded by Dana Billingsley.

What started as a personal obsession with understanding how AI systems make decisions evolved into a research organization focused on one question: why does AI recommend certain brands and not others?

That question led to the AI Trend Oracle, which monitors recommendation patterns across ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Perplexity. It led to published research including the Five Layers of AI Recommendation, the AI Recommendation Intelligence Landscape 2026, and the Four Levels of AI Visibility. And it led to Axis Suite, the AI Recommendation Intelligence platform that turns diagnostic research into tools businesses can use to understand and improve how AI recommends them.

Dana publishes weekly AI recommendation intelligence through the TrendAxis newsletter, contributes original research to the Axis Suite Proof Center, and writes daily analysis on the TrendAxis blog.

Axis Suite

Home of Axis Suite

Axis Suite is the AI Recommendation Intelligence platform built by TrendAxis. It is the independent intelligence layer that explains what AI believes about your brand, why it believes it, and what to do about it.

Axis Suite measures how ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Perplexity recommend your business, diagnoses which of the five layers is driving the result, and provides prioritized fix recommendations based on what will have the biggest impact.

Built for B2B SaaS companies, digital marketing agencies, and AI visibility practitioners who have moved past “does AI mention us” and need to answer “why does AI recommend our competitor instead of us.”

A buyer asks ChatGPT for recommendations. Sees your brand. Searches your name on Google. Visits your website. Marketing attributes the visit to brand awareness. But the actual source was an AI recommendation your team never saw. That misattribution is happening in your pipeline right now.

Every AI visibility score should answer one question: why did it change? Without that answer, improvement is accidental. 45% of marketing leaders still cannot accurately measure AI visibility because their tools show what happened without explaining the cause.

A buyer asks ChatGPT to recommend platforms in your category. ChatGPT builds a shortlist. The buyer searches your name on Google. Marketing attributes the visit to brand awareness. But the real influence was an AI conversation nobody on your team will ever see.

More content is the answer to almost every marketing problem. Except this one. AI visibility responds to structure, not volume. Crawlable pages, consistent categories, independent evidence. The hardest shift is unlearning the instinct to publish your way out.
